Ever wonder how much carbon you use per day, week, year?
Did you know that for every gallon of fossil fuel you burn it produces 19lbs of Co2?
Here's the math...
Let's use my crx as an example:
I burn aprox 10 gallons of fuel per week.
10 gals x 52 weeks in a year = 520 gallons per year
520 gals x 19lbs of carbon = 9880 lbs of carbon
OMG! - 9880 lbs. Of Carbon Per Year!Now..
Let's go a step further...
Imagine for a minute that all vehicles are Honda CRX's and everyone used 10 gallons of fuel per week. In 2005 the DOT estimated there were 247,421,120 registered passenger vehicles in the United States. Now take 9880 lbs of carbon and multiply that by 247,421,120. Before we total out... remember this was registered vehicles only in the US and this data is now 2 yrs old!
Total Carbon Footprint of the US populated by Honda CRX's = 2,444,520,665,600 lbs of carbon each year.Errrrtt.... Pump the brakes!
Wait a min.. That's only 10 gallons per week in a fleet of CRX's.
The reality of it all, is that not all people drive a CRX, nor do they drive as little as I do.
So... the number above is incorrect, and in reality, IS much larger.
Not only that.. this number can be increased again, because airplanes, ships, trains, power sports, lawn equipment, etc, etc. haven't been factored into the math above.
My guess, is the number I supplied above could be doubled or trippled.
Unfortunatley, I couildn't find data on how many gallons of fuel have been sold per year on average, but I belive the illustration above is enough to demonstrate my point.
Point being, we need an alternative fuel to supply a better product for our environment, and drive down the cost of fuel. It's no secret that our Co2 emissions is killing our eco system. What are you doing to save your environment?
One last question..
Is Byron a Tree Hugging, Green Thumb, Democratic Hippie?
Survey say: H to the L NO! I just see the benefits of our society going green and I believe our heavy use of fuel has damaged our eco system. I also believe we can recover it, if everyone will chip in.
Happy Earth Day, you carbon producing MoFo's!
