| im not much of gearhead when it comes to engines but im trying i been pondering on which way i wanna go on my engine and cant really decide. should i stick with my stock 2.2 with auto transmission and turbo it? my engine has 140k miles not sure if turboing it would be real safe without rebuilding it. . i like that kit from turboS-10.com. it only runs 2300 for everything. other way is SBC, id like the build to be diff. than the average s-10 build, but with the v-8 the prices and performance are quite a bit better. even thought about ford 5.0 just to be different but i dont know, what you guys think? | |

| no Ford 5.0 in a Chevy... Besides it would be a difficult swap. Jus ask the street rod guys.. thats why they usually have a chevy under the hood.
I like the turbo idea.. built your stock internals will not hold up. You'll have to build the engine to hold the boost. Couple grand for the build = a couple for the turbo... big money.
I'd swap in a chevy v8. go with a sb 350. Dont get the 305.. as tempting as it is.. you'll be happier with the 350.
chrome her out, add a mild cam and some carbs.. it'll look and sound sweet. | |

| you can boost on stock internals as long as you keep the boost down. some would say but what is the point in boosting. with stock internals i wouldnt go no more than 7 or 8 psi.

| yeah it will have to be low boost..but with 140k.. those rings or the head gasket is gonna pop at some point... if boosting.. you gotta build that engine. When ya do... go with Eagle Rods and JE pistons... it's good stuff. | |

| this is the one i was lookin at, with a TCI tranny http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=NAL%2D12486041&autoview=skuid like to keep the engine under 4000 minus the tranny im not in any hurry to swap it in, so the engine i linked atleast i could build the external parts myself. im just internal dumb, when it comes to pistons, crank, heads and so on im completely lost... ill swap rearends when i bag it. yea i was worried about the internals on the 2.2 and with just the base 350 would be more hp than a half way decent rebuilt 2.2. And hey..whos sayin i cant turbo the 350 in the long run ) | |

| Hey now. Don't steal my idea of a 302/351 based motor in a s series truck. I wouldn't waste my time turboing your truck. Unless you are ready to upgrade the internals and all. Even though some would disagree. Heck, there is tons of turbo 2.2 guys on s-10forum.com that will agrue with me. But what do I know. 95% of my vehicles have been v8's of somesorts. | |

| yea ill prolly go v-8 considering the price to HP comparison. Anyone out there has to love the sound of mustang engines, and in a dime it would be unique. heck yea do it and post some pics Not sure what v-8 yet but im pretty sure thats what im goin for. Im saving a down payment on a Subaru WRX atm so that will get the turbo 4popper out of my system | |

| yea, I had a v8 mustang and a 302/306 based motor I crammed in a 1st gen 92 ranger. Of course without flowmasters. https://www.youtube.com/profile?user=lxtasy1videos there. lol Friend leaked some information about a lt4/t56 combo in ohio that i might get. But really want a ford in a chevy as my club is called DISTURBED CREATIONS. | |

| If I knew anything at all about the 2.2 I would help you out. From my experience with the small block in a mini truck, I will tell you this. I will never do it again. I had a truck almost identical to devons mazda but with a healthy 355. It was static droped and handled like crap. I am not sure if it was the extra weight or not. A few years ago I swaped a built rotary into a mazda and that handled like crap too. I'm was never expecting a sports car out of either truck, but both actually felt scary in corners. The rotary truck felt like it was hydroplaning all the time and the v8 truck felt like driving a semi without the power steering. If it was me I would focus on the suspension first and enjoy the low and slow lifestyle. I know I love crusing and driving devons truck. But what do I know. All my experience is in mazdas and maybe the s10 is a completly different beast. | |
